Contact Improvisation & Nostalgia (Dance Workshop & Jam)

This is a warm invitation to Contact Improvisation and Nostalgia by visiting artist Ryuta Iwashita (New Orleans/Japan)... * What are you composed of? What is your potent activator of the reality? You're invited to remember, revisit, reconstruct and reactivate who you are through a series of embodied questions. Weaving Contact Improvisation, Authentic Movement and Butoh elements together, we will turn our bodies into a utopia for memories and dreams. Please bring your journal or pieces of paper and a pen if you have. This four-hour long intensive is open for any curious people with some movement background. * Ryuta Iwashita (they/them) lives and improvises as a movement/performance artist and facilitator/educator in New Orleans after living in Japan for 25 years. Their lexicon of improvisation derives from Martial Arts, Contact Improvisation, Butoh and their life being fluid between two countries. While hosting Contact Improvisation jams and workshops in New Orleans, they have been invited to facilitate workshops for Contact Improvisation and dance Improvisation in Japan, China and the U.S. including Tulane University, Seattle Festival of Dance Improv, West Coast CI Jam, and Queer Lab & Jam at Earthdance. Their current interest is to map out the mechanism of how much their friend loves Justin Bieber.
